Stained glass art meets Southwestern iconography...
A native of Memphis, TN and Georgia, Janice visited Taos in the 70s, at which time she stayed at Ghost Ranch with a friend. She fell in love with the big sky, the endless horizon and the multicolored rock landscape. Janice made Taos her permanent home in 2003, and never looked back. Her home and glass studio are an earthship with a view of Taos Mountain. And she can't imagine being anywhere else. This is evident in her Southwest inspired designs which include cactus and quail, flowers indigenous to Northern New Mexico, and other Southwestern iconography. Her beautiful stained glass crosses in frames of old horseshoes at once evoke the New Mexico landscape and its spiritually-based lifestyle.
Janice has been involved with art most of her life. Always interested in the tactile arts, her work in stained glass began in 1990 in Colorado. Her crosses are made by welding five horseshoes together, creating patterns out of stained glass with brilliant color and texture to contrast with the roughness of the horseshoes. The crosses can be displayed inside or out wherever the sun shines. Janice also makes single horseshoe sun catchers and glass mosaic stepping stones which feature Southwest designs.
